I'm thankful for the brilliance in the rising sun
Painting pastel the sky of a new day begun
And for the glowing moon in the darkness of night
Casting outstretched mystical shadows from its light
I'm thankful to be surrounded by cheerful noise
Catching contagious laughter and all its pure joys
And for the beautiful sweetness of silence still
Soothing my spirit and wholeness of peace fulfill
I'm thankful for moments of those energy bursts
Leading me to be with fellow humans immersed
And for those tedious and sleepless weary nights
Blessing and helping loved ones in their needs and plights
I'm thankful for long and lazy calm summer days
Enjoying pleasant shade for relief from the rays
And for the stillness of a magical snow
Tingling and burning as the warmth returns to my toe
I'm thankful for this amazing glorious world
Witnessing the wondrous aspects of life unfurled
And as its equal the eternal expanse of skies
Pleasing my senses as all these wonders arise
Commentary:
I've been wanting to write a poem, and didn't really have anything in my mind that I was specifically thinking about, so I concluded that I would sit down and write a gratitude poem. To be honest, it's a little bit of a relief to have this little writing at this time, because I've been witnessing some things on social media, a lot of complaining and frustrations, and in general some really dark emotions that have been starting to affect me. I might talk about the effects it was having on me at another place and time, but this little project has given me something better to focus on, and doing this in place of going on social media and seeing those things has lightened my load a little. This is how writing has helped me, and I'm quite sure it's helped so many others out there.
There are so many things to be grateful for, and I'm quite sure I don't express my gratitude enough. It's also a perfect poem for this time of year since the Thanksgiving holiday is coming up. Where I live, we are taught to use this holiday as not just a stuff our mouths time, but also a time to sit back and reflect on what we have been blessed with for the past year, or even life. Some things we share with our friends and family, and others we just keep to ourselves, because of how personal they are. Either way, it's definitely a beautiful moment if you're willing to take the time for it.
Witnessed this beautiful sight while walking on a rainy day. |
