Watching the shadows sit quietly still
A vague pink glow shines through the window
Reflecting the lights from the street
A sign of snow crystals swirling in the air
Half in doubt, I get up to look closer
And peering out the window I see
The beautiful pure whiteness of fresh fallen snow
Blanketing the world in its glory
Untouched
A beauty that suddenly overcomes me
Rejuvenating my soul and experiencing joy
I am renewed
And even as I look up to see the blurred circular sun
I feel the beauty of it all
Inspiring me
Uplifting me
Strengthening me
Beautifying me
Commentary:
Winter seems to be a favorite season of mine to write poetry about along with Spring. To be honest, I feel a little sad when I hear people say they don't like winter. They're so stuck on what they see as negatives. It's the same complaint all the time: They can't handle cold and they hate snow. I wish I could help them experience it all the way I do. It's so frustrating that so few people can't see it. As every other season, it has its magical moments, and I'm not restricting that to the Christmas holiday (though I love that, too). It's the simple little things that thrill me, and as I've said it before all the delights trump the negatives. It's all so beautiful, and I can't help it!
I mention in the poem about the pink hue that perhaps some people wouldn't understand. When a large snow storm blows through my part of the world early in the morning, it skews the light so that it appears pink or some similar color while the day approaches. The snow often falls overnight where I live, and it's often a delightful surprise when I wake up and almost the first color I see is white. It's awesome to wake up in the middle of the night and discover the snow almost glowing in the moonlight. Sigh. Am I alone in experiencing all of this?
