Life

Life
It surrounds me
Everywhere around
In the beauty of unblemished youth
In the beauty of wear and tear
And even as death approaches
Each stage in its amazing show
The touch of brilliant color
Can all but change in a moment
As storms pass through
As the winds blow
As the heat of the sun beats upon the earth
Yet in it all is a beauty
A beauty of color
A beauty of growth
A beauty of a long lived life
No matter what befalls
It's beautiful
It's wonderful
It's life

Commentary:

Life.  You love it.  You hate it.  It's full of joys and sorrows.  It's full of thrills and tragedies.  An on going cycle of enjoyable moments and moments that people would wish could be erased from history.  What is the worth of going through all of this?  It's a question frequently asked.  As much as some of the realists out that have some good points, I also believe that optimism exists.  There are difficulties that will occur throughout the stages of life.  That's part of living.  On the other hand, along with those stages are some experiences and moments that are priceless.

In this poem, I am thinking about the natural process of the seasons from the beginning of life in the spring to the winters sleep.  As my mind works through the cycle, the unique characteristics of the seasons go through my mind.  Their unique qualities are their defining beauty in that moment.  It makes me think of life in general, how we each go through the different stages in life.  Many grieve the moment they lose their youth and beauty, but the beauty is still there.  As someone who observes people, I have known elderly people who are the most beautiful people I have known.  Life is beautiful at every stage.
