How the Leopards Got Their Spots

Once upon a time there was a beautiful forest full of cougars, jaguars, and other wild animals.  They lived with people in the most beautiful spot in the forest.  At the time the leopards were not wild, but tame.  They became friends with men and women.  The animals never fought each other, because they were also friends.

The leopards at this time were plan pure white.  These creatures didn't know the future.  They ate chokecherries and became wild in an instant.  Many people thought it was the wildness, color, and juiciness of the chokecherries that caused them to go wild.

At this time the people had to leave the area and go into Alexandria.  As the leopards saw them leaving they wanted to go into the city after their new kind of food.  The animals didn't care about anybody but their families.  One day they went into the city to look for their tender, juicy, and delicious new food that they'd always be on the lookout for, their most wanted food: people.

They got into the city and attacked many places that were chain stores.  The leopards went into the banks full of people, and decided to go into homes as well.  Somehow those people got away from their homes and to safety.  The leopards were sad to find their food had disappeared.

They decided to look in the old paint store and got splattered on.  Now they had a bunch of spots and couldn't get them off!  This is how leopards got their spots!

Commentary:

Trying out a new thing.  I have been posting poetry only here, but I am experimenting with the idea of sharing some of my other little writings on this blog since I do more than poetry.  New experiment time!

This is a story I wrote for a class assignment in 6th grade (11 years old).  I have made a few minor corrections for clarification and spelling/grammar issues, but the ideas and original story came straight from my 11 year-old self.  At that age, I was writing some stories outside of assignments, but not as actively as I was making up stories.  If I had a book for each story I made up, it would fill several shelves.  Anyway, during this time period writing was more of a fun thing to do and I didn't realize I had any ability in it for a few more years when a teacher pointed it out to me.

On a side note: we all know now the real reason some of these chain stores downsized or disappeared in so many places. LOL!
