Pure Hearts

Purity, the beautiful white radiating light,
Untarnished by intrusive obstructions,
But how does it come to be,
And how is it maintained?

Is it exempt from all human foibles and flaws,
Avoiding wrong doings, an unfathomable perfection?
There is no exemption.  Mistakes happen,
But a deep personal cleansing nullifies it.

Is there a freedom from excruciating pains,
Those that cripple the body, mind, and spirit?
There is no escape, and perhaps an increased intensity,
For without it there is no understanding or empathy.

Is there a blindness to the evil lurking in the dark,
Restricting only to witness the glorious light?
It is not naive and comprehends it all,
For without darkness can it see the light.

Is there also a blindness to the flaws of humanity,
The deceits and wrong doings, thieves of trust.
In this it is also not naive and sees it in clarity,
But behind it all sees an unmistakable potential.

Does it dive into the depths of hopelessness,
Overcome by the feeling of helplessness and discouragement?
The feelings may certainly come, but hope still lingers
As it allows a childlike trust and faith to step in and take the reigns.

Is entrusting such tender things as a heart to unknown powers a weakness,
A foolish move to make in the game of life?
There is no weakness, but only a source of strength,
And in addition a great source of unexplained power.

Commentary:

The bleeding hearts are blooming in the flower beds right now, and they are different from the original bleeding hearts we used to have planted as they are completely white instead of pink and white.  It made me start thinking about pure hearts and what makes a pure heart.  This poem isn't a full explanation of the insights I came up with, but I decided to share these few thoughts.  I'm never exactly sure how these things come across to people, because to me they always feel incomplete or imperfect, but if it inspires someone out there, I'm happy.

I hope you're all having a wonderful day.  There's a lot of hope out there.  Keep smiling.😊
