I love waking up to birds cheerfully singing.
I love going to sleep in the peaceful darkness of night.
The morning sunrise uplifts my spirits.
The final closure of a sunset inspires my reflections.
Cool canyon breezes blowing against me brings joy.
Overlooking the mountains and valleys from a mountain peak is thrilling.
I have a new day to hope and make life a little better.
I have a late night to end today's troubles.
The flowers show me beauty. I feel it.
The changing fall leaves show me endurance. It strengthens me.
Heat in the day makes me happy for cool nights.
The freezing winter drifts make me happy for the heat.
I'm engrossed and amazed at my surroundings.
I'm relaxed and calmed by them too.
Everyone of them incites a feeling of happiness.
It's in the grass blades.
It's in the dancing tree leaves.
It's in the ripple of the water.
It's in the peaceful breeze of the mountains.
It's in the expansive plains.
It's in the oceans.
If you look, you can find it in me,
And if I look, I can find it in you.
We're all a part of it.
Commentary:
There was no specific source of inspiration for this poem. It seemed like it was time to write something, so I did. It's fascinating for me when I grab that pen, or whatever writing instrument of device is closest to grab, and watch as I let the words come out. It doesn't always come out eloquent, or at least I don't feel like I'm really expressing things as well as I would like, but it really is interesting to watch the direction the thoughts go when I do this. Originally, I thought I was sitting down to write a gratitude poem; however, my mind took me another direction, though I believe there are hints inside of the poem that it wasn't entirely ignored. For one reason or another, whether it is a long thought out piece, or a sudden insight such as this, these writings seem to speak to someone, and that's what I'm ultimately grateful for: I helped someone feel better today. It seems like that is becoming more important as we watch all the chaos surrounding us in one form or another.
