You Took Me In

I walk along the crowded streets.
My brain is overwhelmed,
So many words flying from shouting voices,
Mixed messages whirling inside of me!
Some of them pierce me with angry darts.
Others blow me over by tempest-like winds.
Some dump large raining downpours of sorrow upon my face.
A random few are casting warm rays of sunshine.
And then there are the soft voices being outspoken.
I'm confused.
I'm lost, and I don't know where I'm going.

And then I see you.

High above the crowd you stand, at the top of a steep stairway.
You've been waiting and watching for a long time, it seems.
The crowd in its chaos doesn't see you, but you see them.
Our eyes connect.
With a slight gesture you invite me to come to you.
And as I began my steps toward you, a lifted weight!
Suddenly, the crowd seemed less oppressive.
You remained unmoved as I focused on you.
That built my courage as I pressed forward.
Punched, Beaten, and stepped on, I continued.
And you waited.
By the time I came to you, my strength was spent,
But you lifted me up, and you took me in,
Into your home of peace, hope, and love.

Commentary:

Another poem that came straight out of my mind without thinking beforehand.  This one's actually supposed to be religious as the person providing the steadfast place of focus represents God.  That deity could be different to people who read this, but I believe despite our beliefs in who or what is actually God, there is a common desire among all of us, and among them are the last three words in the poem: peace, hope, and love.  I think ultimately, this is what the majority of people religious or not are desiring, but the disagreement lies in how to obtain it.
