Painted Sky

My eyes are open, and it's still quite dark,
Yet a hint of light, it shines through the window.
I lie there looking up to the ceiling.
The world is still and not yet awake.
And the silence, it speaks.
Its soft spoken tones gently soothe me,
While I adjust to another day,
Preparing my mind for what's to come.
It sometimes seems so pointless,
The endless routine.
But as I glance over to the window light,
Behold, a glow attracts my eyes!
Beyond it outside A bright colored sky,
Clouds all aglow in gold and pastel pink.
A power within, a magical touch
Suddenly draws me from my soft bed.
I run downstairs and out the back door.
Above a canvas of painted sky.
A beautiful moment, my soul now soars.
It greets me good morning, and I do the same.
I'm energetic now and ready to start,
To face the routine. It's no longer mundane.
I'm thankful for these reminders from God,
That I might remember His love for me.
That one day the mundane will give way,
And I'll never regret I experienced today.

Comments:
It's been so long! Ever since I've had to take on extra responsibility with taking care of family, it's been harder to find time to sit down and write things out. I've been thinking about writing something for a while, and so many things have run through my mind, but a lot of times writing these things out requires a lot of effort of digging deep. That requires a lot of concentration and self-connection, which is sometimes difficult for me to do when I'm running around trying to take care of other things.

This particular poem was inspired by this morning's sunrise as well as remembering other sunrises in the past that have drawn me out of bed just so I could be outside to admire it. This morning's sunrise was particularly unusual, because it was the clouds in the west that were glowing the cotton candy colored pink, and they were joined by a little thunder and lightning. A neighbor of mine caught on her camera a rainbow. I missed that one due to having to take care of someone at the time, but there have been multiple ones hovering over our part of town lately. I love it!

This morning's clouds during sunrise.
